This Madarij al-Salikin translation is an unabridged, annotated rendition of the revered work by the renowned Damascene scholar and saint Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya (d. 751/1350). Madarij, an attempt to revive Sufism’s Qur’anic roots, was conceived as a critical commentary on an earlier Sufi classic by the great Hanbalite scholar Abi Ismail of Herat.
The original book, which served as a foundational text for Sufi initiates, was written in brief, rhymed language as a master’s guidance to the aspirant on the route to God. It described a trip of a hundred stations with the ultimate goal of becoming lost in oneself (fana) and existing (baqa) in God.
This English-Arabic face-to-face presentation of this masterwork of Islamic psychology includes a thorough introduction and annotation by the translator, Ovamir (Uwaymir) Anjum.
