This book is the outcome of my long-term involvement with youth and community work in Britain. Many people, including the very young and old, have contributed to the ideas contained in it. They all deserve my sincere thanks.
The decision to write a book on parenting was further enhanced when | came across a respected elder who ‘lost’ his daughter. | was not sure how to console him at that time. | pray to Allah that no one faces that situation with their children.
The pressure within me to start writing became stronger when | was approached by Witness Pioneer network, an internet-based virtual organization, to run a course on some social issues for their virtual school. | made up my mind to run the ‘Islamic Perspective of Parenting’ course. | am indebted to them for allowing me to run it through which | learned a lot.
am also grateful to Dr. Jamil Sharif of Webstar Plc., London, who decided to run the same course on their Salaam web page with additional online question and answer facilities. In the same way, my participation in a week-long Facilitator Course on ‘Strengthening Families and Strengthening Communities: An Inclusive Parent Programme’ by the Race Equality Foundation (REF) in London was useful.
